Much Ado About You

When a woman enters a salon, a relationship is formed. The right stylist is as important as the right doctor. A client trusts their stylist to create the beauty that brings out their inner glow.

Veteran stylist Hillary Jean has been in the beauty industry for 26 years. She is the owner of Me U Salon, located at 152 W 24th St., and owned two previous salons prior to opening her latest venture.

“I love doing hair,” she said as she crosses her legs in the styling chair. “It is an accessory, especially for women. I believe I have the hands, the art, and the power to bring that out of people.”

Me U Salon Spa is a one-stop shop for the New York woman on the go seeking a little “me time.” Furnished in warm, earth tones, Me U Salon Spa provides its clients with a welcoming aesthetic upon entering through its threshold. After being greeted, the customer is given her choice of beverage or a glass of red or white wine, helping to add an extra relaxing feature to the already congenial atmosphere.

Stylists like Marque Washington, who won five Emmys for his styles while working for “The View”, or make-up artist Barbara Bilkerdjik, who has over 20 years of experience working on movie sets and photo shoots are the main feature of Me U Salon Spa.

Jean believes it’s important that her staff presents the same melting-pot essence that New York City is famous for. “I wanted to make sure that every woman that walks through that door feels comfortable,” Jean said. “We have a very international salon.” Any women of any ethnic group can enter Me U Salon Spa and feel comfortable knowing a stylist is there that can satisfy her needs.

For women, the salon and spa provide a much-needed sanctuary from the everyday hustle and bustle of city life. Me U Salon Spa provides an upscale, intimate feel, which includes a quick consultation between the stylists and their clients before any service is rendered. For every woman that enters this NYC beauty cocoon for a brief visit, they will emerge as stunning as butterflies on the first day of spring.
